Communications: Robert Andrews, Chair
This will be much more eloquent than my other presentations. I was participating in the Senior Fitness Challenge, and did not have time to write anything, so I relied on AI to write it for me.
Beatitudes Campus continues to demonstrate excellence both in wellness and facility enhancements, giving our community members more reasons to celebrate.
Our residents have achieved a remarkable milestone in the regional Senior Fitness Challenge. After winning the competition for the past two consecutive years, we’ve secured victory for a third straight year. This impressive three-year winning streak means the traveling trophy now permanently belongs to Beatitudes Campus. This achievement reflects the dedication of our residents to maintaining active, healthy lifestyles and the strength of our wellness programs. The trophy stands as a testament to our community’s commitment to fitness and friendly competition.
In other campus news, you may have noticed a welcome upgrade in the Bistro.
New tabletops have been installed, refreshing the space where so many of our residents gather for meals, coffee, and conversation. The updated surfaces provide a more pleasant dining environment for everyone who uses this popular gathering spot.
For our Lifelong Learners program, please note a schedule adjustment.
The “How It Works” session has been moved to the next Lifelong Learners
meeting. We’ve encountered ongoing technical difficulties in the Life Center that have prevented us from properly projecting slides for presentations. Our team is working to resolve these issues, but rather than compromise the quality of the educational experience, we’ve opted to reschedule. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these technical challenges to ensure our Lifelong Learners sessions maintain their high standards.

Report for Communications Committee for Sept 10
I’d like to talk first about the shifting of the Meeting rooms. Donna covered it very well last week, but as a resident I’d like to point out. Some have criticized management for failure to communicate. It’s a two way street though. Some of the problems have happened because of failure of groups to notify catering and facilities of an event you have decided to host. These recurring events need to be entered into the Works Hub calendar to avoid conflicts.
A few examples have already surfaced. There is a breakfast group that meets in the Plaza Club where we will now be hosting Creating our Future Studio. There are Rumikub, Bridge, and Chickenfoot games that occur on a regular basis. My own Communications meeting was calendared, but has been displaced because of the LifeLong Learners Spanish class. We may have to make concessions, but the dust will settle, and a peaceful life here at Beatitudes will continue.
That being said…
Communications is now meeting in the Plaza Club, and we meet at 10:30 on the third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is six days from now – Tuesday, September 16. After many years, Herb Komnick is retiring from the Communications Committee, so we will be having cake. As it turns out, this will also be Bob Morgan’s last meeting. He is moving back to Canada to be with his family.
The latest printed Telephone Directory was January 2025. We are working on an update, but until that time, you can see a current directory in Uniguest that is updated at the beginning of every month. Go to Publications – Residents – and Resident Census.
For new residents and team members, there is a WayNav program on Uniguest and at www.Meteors.net – you simply plug in an apartment number or destination name, and it shows you a map pin of where you want to go. This is a great way to learn your way around the Campus.
The TV Guide has been printed and is available both on Uniguest, Meteors.net, and a printed copy at the Information Station.
A reminder, that you can order Buckwald’s items to go, but you must make that order through the Buckwald’s dining staff, as the registers do not have Buckwald’s items loaded. Reservations are no longer required for Buckwald’s, but are recommended. Sometimes they get filled up, and you may have to wait for a table if you do not have a reservation, or you can eat in the Plaza Club which is an overflow area for Buckwald’s with the same great table service.
There have been a few comments about the hours for Around the Block. Eliza works five days a week from 9:00-5:00. Security is available at all other times. It may take longer for a response though, as their first duty is campus safety, but transportation is always available.
A reminder: A new event: Resident Mixer begins this coming Sunday at noon. New residents, actually all residents, are invited to go through the Bistro and ask for their food to be brought into the Plaza Club, where the new and the old will come together for talk and community.
LifeLong Learner Session A classes, begin next week. Because of the room changes, the locations in the catalog are not correct, and in many instances change between classes. Please see the Roadrunner each week for the correct meeting location of your classes. In case you forget to look, the information will also be posted on the door of the location stated in the catalog when the location has been moved. If you did not get a chance to register, please see Barbara Bauer for late registration.
September 26 is our talent show. We still need volunteers to sing, dance, tell a joke, read a story, or whatever comes to mind. Contact Cindi Aune if interested.
Keeping you up to date,
by Robert Andrews
Report for Communications Committee for June 11
Read by Bill Chase, previous chair of Communications Committee.
We are currently meeting on the third Monday of each month. Our new meeting location is Central Park West 4th Floor. There will, however, be no June meeting. Next meeting will be July 21.
One of the top things we’ve heard over the past two months is about our Internet.
We are setting up a Resident Printer network to create a more secure environment.
Sam Williams, our new Tech Support Guy in Plaza South 116, has been working dilligently to complete this task.
The new printed Telephone Directory is nearing completion. Please view your personal listing, and if you would like any changes, please pass that information on to Jon Schilling.
The new dining services changes have gone much more smoothly than we had hoped. You can now order “to go” orders from Buckwald’s, but you must make that order through the Buckwald’s dining staff, as the registers do not have Buckwald’s items loaded.
We are still having some delivery packages left outside of the gates. This is being addressed. We will be posting signs directing the delivery people to the main gate.
A sign has been requested directing visitors that come when the Welcome Center is opened, to exit through Plaza View, as the Welcome Center is sometimes locked after guests have arrived. This is especially necessary since Elaine’s is now opened on Saturday until 7:00. Welcome Center doors are currently locked at 4:30 on Saturday.
Shredding bins were discussed. For those without a shredding bin in their lobby, you can use the shredding bin in the Bistro next to the Battery Recycle station.
We also talked about outgoing packages. United Parcel Service and FedEx packages must be taken to the Facilities Office. If you head to Backstreet Boutique and take the sidewalk to the left of the building, you will see Facilities. You can give them your package. United States Postal Service packages can go to the Welcome Center.
RESIDENT COUNCIL REPORT
Communications Committee Report
to The Residents Council – April 9, 2025
This report will be just a bit longer than usual, so brace yourself.
The Communications Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:00. The next meeting is April 21. We are now meeting in Elaine’s rather than the board rooms. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or as an observer. I am not sure where we will meet after the Buckwald’s change-over.
NOTE: Michelle said staff is meeting with all who are scheduled for meetings or gatherings in all rooms affected.
Some of you may have known that our new tech guru Sam Williams is the husband of Mollie Heiden, and both are the proud parents of a newborn baby boy. Sullivan Louis Williams was 8lb 6 oz. – 21.5 inches long. This means a lot more to the women than them men. My question was did he have ten fingers and ten toes.
Anyway, Sam is taking the week off. He will be back Monday. Till then, the Communications Committee is staffing the help desk from 12 until 2:00 through Friday.
Sam’s new office will eventually be Plaza South, apartment 116, right next to Oasis Physical Therapy, Community Matters – previously Community Engagement, and Curana Health.
The TV Guide is taking shape. The biggest complaint was that the Roadrunner Brief played at 8:00 am. As it turns out, most of us (myself included) are frequently sleeping at 8:00. It’s been moved to 11:30, and the music previously schedule for 11:30 is now playing at 8:00. TV Guides are at the information station, and today only, in the back of the Life Center.
The Beatitudes Design Studio has a new name: Creating our Future. It is more descriptive of what we are trying to accomplish, which is propose new programs and directions for The Campus. Michelle and Donna have agreed to act as our Staff Liasons. For now, it is happening every Thursday morning at 9:00, but this too may change.
A quick note about Summer. I took an infrared temperature reading of the asphalt last year when the temperature was 105º – the pavement was 156º
Please keep this in mind when walking your pets. Walk in the early morning or late evening, or stay in the shade or on the grass.
Thanks to Bob Bales for suggesting that Uniguest implement both extension numbers and the entire phone number on slides. Some of our new residents do not have a land line, so just the extension does not give them any usable information. All of them have not yet been converted, but we are working on it.
Thanks to Ruth Crowley for organizing visits from the Library Bookmobile. It visits the campus every third Friday at 10:00. The next visit is April 18.
On April 22 we have two great events. Carole Beard is holding a foot clinic, of special interest to those with Type 2 Diabetes. That conflicts slightly with the trip to the Sikh Gourdwara hosted by Spiritual Life. The Foot Clinic will be recorded and put on Channel 1-2.
April 25 at 4:00 will be a Street Fair. Look in the Roadrunner next week for details.
April 28 Fiddler on the Roof.
April 30 Mad Hatter Tea Party.
This next section was eliminated, as it was addressed by Michelle.
A final note: There’s been just a bit of confusion about the dining services timeline. The last day of sit-down dinner service in Buckwald’s at the Life Center will be Friday May 9. The first day of the New Buckwald’s in the Town Plaza will be Monday May 19, which will include both lunch and dinner menus.
The following sentence WAS given at the meeting.
Bistro hours and menu will remain unchanged. Elaine’s Fine Dining will move to Friday and Saturday.

RESIDENT COUNCIL REPORT
Communications Committee Report
to The Residents Council – February 12, 2025
The Communications Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:00. The next meeting is February 17. We are now meeting in Elaine’s rather than the board rooms. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or as an observer.
As most of you may have heard, GroovyTek gave us about two hours notice that they had ceased support in Arizona. Initially, it appeared as if they were maintaining operations in Florida and Georgia, but I checked the website just before this meeting, and the entire site has been taken down, so they did go under.
Efforts began immediately to get a replacement for on-site tech support. Exactly what form that may take is not yet known. Beatitudes asked Communications to step in and help out until a replacement is found. We will be staffing the GroovyTek desk, which they kindly left behind, weekdays from 12:00 until 2:00.
Thanks to Kathy Miller, Bill Chase, Chuck Beaujon, Judy Chernick, and Bob Morgan who will be helping to fill that role.
Any support requiring access to your apartment should go through Jon Schilling, who is the head of Community Engagement. You can reach him by dialing zero, and you will be connected.
Meanwhile, if you don’t have Uniguest on your phone or laptop computer, Communications is taking walk-in tech visits from noon until 2:00 Monday through Friday. Our desk is near the Beatitudes Library.
There are a few TV programs that happen at specific times, but right now, most of us just happen onto TV programming. Jon Schilling, Jennifer Long, and I are working on a TV Guide that will tell you when programming is scheduled; Such as replays of Residents Council, Town Hall, Readers Theater, Church Services and musical events. We are finalizing design, so if you would like to be part of this development, please take one from the back of the room.

RESIDENT COUNCIL REPORT
Communications Committee Report
to The Residents Council – December 11, 2024
The Communications Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:00. The next meeting is December 17. We are now meeting in Elaine’s rather than the board rooms. We’d like to welcome Bob Beal as our most recent addition. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or as an observer.
As you may have noticed we had hit a snag in Roadrunner Production. Jennifer Long is our Media Specialist, and was out due to unforeseen circumstances, so we have had to make due with our existing resources. This has exposed some weaknesses in our process, that Community Engagement is addressing. We’d like to thank Ray Gonzales and Jon Schilling for Roadrunner production during this time. Jen is now back on Campus, and the music is back on Channel 1-2.
Meanwhile, if you don’t have Uniguest on your phone or computer, GroovyTek takes walk-in tech visits from noon until 2:00 Monday through Friday. Their desk is near the Beatitudes Library.
QR Codes are in full swing here at Beatitudes. There is a QR Code handout at the back of the room today. After today, it will be available at the Information Station.

RESIDENT COUNCIL REPORT
Communications Committee Report
to The Residents Council – October 9, 2024
The Communications Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:00. The next meeting is October 21. We are now meeting in Elaine’s rather than the board rooms. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or as an observer.
The family app for Uniguest has been rolled out. Family and friends should contact Jon Schilling for an account. The family portion has the menu and activities, but no resident information.
We’ve made arrangements with KBAQ to have classical music on Channel 1-1 at no cost. As a courtesy, we posted information about how to become a sustaining member of KBAQ, KJZZ, and Sun Sounds.
The new login system is working well. Cynthia Cielle made a Flashback Video of our new sign-in process that is now playing on Uniguest and on Channel 1-2. It plays Saturday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, and Sunday from 5:00- 7:00 pm. As it turns out, it only takes two minutes to create a new profile, and a single minute to log in for subsequent visits. And think of the safety we Residents get because of that brief process!
The AI reading of the Roadrunner is going well, and has been well-received. Community Engagement has purchased additional AI voices, so we can have multiple readers with more personality than the free version offers. The AI Roadrunner plays on Channel 1-2 every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings from 8:30 am until 10:00.
The new phone books have been published. Please send any corrections to Gabi Holberg.
QR Codes are in full swing here at Beatitudes. A short video of how to use them plays during the Flashback videos. You can see the morning and afternoon TV schedules by clicking the Feed button on Uniguest.
November 5 is the date of Junior Building Rep Elections. At that time, the previous Junior Building Rep will move into the Senior Rep position. By now, you should have been informed of the candidates for your building.
Submitted by Robert Andrews for the Communications Committee.
The Communications Committee continues to keep residents informed, making life easier and more successful; and to make recommendations to the Administration on what they can do to help us.
The Communications Committee and Touchtown Ambassadors meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:00. The next meeting is July 15. We are now meeting in Elaine’s rather than the board rooms. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or an observer.
A reminder that GroovyTek is now offering technical support five days a week. Monday through Friday. The Help Desk hours are from 12:00 am until 2:00 pm, and the in-home hours are from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
Because of this, the Thursday 2:00 Help Desk in the Bistro has being discontinued. You can see GroovyTek for Uniguest assistance. Their Help Desk is located just outside of the Library. There will be a sign posted at the back of the Bistro announcing this new procedure.
We are working with Mike Smallwood and Carole Beard to refresh the exercise videos on TV. Insets offering exercises modified for Level 1 residents are now on videos of the more advanced exercises.
We are working with Joe Kane, Jon Schilling and AVcom on some of the Life Center sound and Channel 1-2 sound issues.
The Celebration of Life for Norma Buckwald will be on Friday, July 26. It will be broadcast on Zoom. It will most likely be very hot. Let me or a member of Spiritual Life know if you would like a login and password.
A reminder that this Saturday July 13 is the big Beatitudes Christmas in July blowout. Most activity is happening in Agelink rooms. Gift Shop and Backstreet will both be opened. July 31 will be our Fifth Wednesday Pie Extravaganza and Christmas movie. See the Roadrunner, Uniguest and
Channel 1-1 for details.
The big news is that Roadrunner Revue has been enhanced by artificial intelligence. AI will read the Roadrunner on Channel 1-2 every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 am until 9:00. On August 1, we will evaluate this project. Please give Jon Schilling or one of the Communications Committee your feedback.
Submitted by Robert Andrews for the Communications Committee.
First of all, the goal of the Communications Committee is to keep residents informed, making life easier and more successful; and to make recommendations to the Administration on what they can do to help us.
The Communications Committee and Touchtown Ambassadors meet on the third Monday of the month in the Board Rooms at 10:00 and 11:00. That’s May 20. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or an observer.
We had asked Gabi to attend our next meeting, but after talking with her we didn’t need her there anymore! We wanted to revisit the requirement for residents to have a landline. As it turns out, it isn’t a requirement. It makes it easier to call other Campus numbers.
Dead end signs have been posted at several of the patio home drives. Thank you Facilities for getting this done.
The Uniguest acquisition of Touchtown has proceeded almost seamlessly. There is now a family module under development, which will give your family all the information they need, without exposing the details of all residents. The new FEED button, at the bottom of your phone, or top of your computer, has been widely accepted. It gives a chronological display of the Channel 1-1 slides, with the TV guide for that day at the start of each day.
As of May 1, GroovyTek is now offering technical support five days a week. Monday through Friday. The Help Desk hours are from 12:00 am until 2:00 pm, and the in-home hours are from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Because of this, the Thursday 2:00 Help Desk in the Bistro is being discontinued. You can see GroovyTek for Uniguest assistance. Their Help Desk is located just outside of the Library. There will be a sign posted at the back of the Bistro announcing this new procedure.
The May Town Hall is now on Channel 1-2. This meeting will start appearing next week. Both meetings will be shown twice a week for the entire month. Also on Channel 1-2 is the recent presentation of the Health Care Changes surrounding short-term rehab.
We are working with Mike Smallwood to refresh the exercise videos on TV. There is now Boogie with Barry, two Thai Chi videos, and much more.
Next Monday is the LifeLong Learners Summer Registration. If you see a class you absolutely have to attend, be sure you get there early.
May 29 is the Fifth Wednesday. There will be a free excursion to the Phoenix Art Museum in the afternoon, and there will be an event and a movie in the Life Center.
Submitted by Robert Andrews for the Communications Committee.
First of all, the goal of the Communications Committee is to communicate to the residents, and to make life easier and more successful; and to make recommendations to the Administration on what they can do to help us.
The monthly meetings of the Communications Committee and Touchtown Ambassadors has changed weeks. We are now meeting on the third Monday of the month in the Board Rooms at 10:00 and 11:00. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or an observer.
The Roadrunner is now delivered directly to the door of each resident. If you are not receiving it to your door, please let me know.
A new schedule for the Channel 1-2 TV programs now appears in Touchtown under a new feature. At the bottom of your phone, or top of your computer, you will see four new buttons: Home, Feed, Search and More. At this time, focus your attention on Home and Feed.
The Home button shows Touchtown as you’ve learned to use it and love it. Feed is a new feature though. It shows a chronological listing of all the slides. The first detailed entry for each day under Feed is a TV guide for Channel 1-2 given the specific programs that are showing that day.
If you want a printed guide, there is a TV Guide in the back of the room listing all the new programming – There are four church services on TV, as well as the LLL How it Works series and Meet the Staff videos. Also included are Town Hall, Residents Council, Broadway Shows, and Readers Theater.

Communications Committee Report
to The Residents Council – January 10, 2023
The Communications Articles are going well. They are intentionally under 250 words, and are not intensive, but may occasionally give a detail or two of which you may not be aware; such as how to get Personal Help Buttons, why Channel 12 is still not broadcasting, and new hours for locking the front door of the Welcome Center. You can see past articles and minutes from many meetings at www.BeatitudesCampus.NET .
The parallel meetings of Communications and Ambassadors has been going well. We talk about the cross-over from one group to the other, such as communicating information to you all through Touchtown, the articles just mentioned, and things such as the information shown in the printed Telephone Directory, Roadrunner Delivery, and on information conveyed through the Beatitudes TV channel.
With just a few glitches, the new programming on Channel 1-2 is slowly taking shape. The TV guide for each particular day is shown both on Channel 1-1 and Channel 1-2. There is a weekly TV guide available in Touchtown at the bottom of the icon labeled Video Content, that shows programming for the entire week.
Starting in January there is a new Wake-up program with Community Engagement – this will be similar to Wake Up with Jon & Anthony, but will have the option to include the entire Community Engagement Staff. This will play Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Chuck Beaujon, the new Campus Photo Journalist continues to supply photos that are reflected on Channel 1-2 in a new program called Beatitudes Flash Backs, and recordings from Church, musical events, and other Campus activities are also being broadcast.
Admin Town Hall and Residents Council are also rebroadcast during the month; and The Michelle and David B-Informed Show, continues to be aired Tuesday through Saturday at 2 pm, and then again for three hours from 4 – 7:00 pm.
The Thursday Ambassador Help Desk will continue to be held at 2:00 pm in the Bistro. GroovyTek is available Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 8 am until 11:00 outside of the library. You can get Touchtown assistance, mobile phone help, and laptop help at any of those locations.
Elections were held recently for building representatives and Admin Council. Those new leaders are posted on Touchtown.
The meeting time for Communications Committee has changed to the second Monday of each month at 10:00 am in the Board Room. It was moved from Wednesday by Management request due to potential conflict with official Community Wednesday events. As always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or an observer.

Communications Committee Report
to The Residents Council – November 8, 2023
As of September, Bill Chase has moved on to other projects, and turned the Communications Committee over to me. Thanks go out to Bill for his Service. I’ll try to live up to his excellent standards.
In September’s meeting we purged our membership roster, and as always anyone is invited to attend as an active member or an observer.
There is a lot of cross-over between Communications and Touchtown, so the Ambassadors meet also on the Third Wednesday, but at 1:00 pm in Jon Schilling’s office. Jon is the staff liaison for both groups. There is one Ambassador position open. If you are technically inclined, and are interested in possibly becoming an Ambassador, talk with me after the meeting today.
On Channel 1-2 you will notice some new programming. There is a wakeup video every morning that begins at 7 am. Our 3 pm Church Service and 10 am Mass are being broadcast twice through the week. The Community Wednesday events are recorded and broadcast on a time delay, and Beatitudes Movies are back. The programming schedule for the day can be viewed on Channel 1-2.
The Michelle and David B-Informed, normally airs Tuesday through Saturday at 2 pm, and then again for three hours from 4 – 7:00 pm. There is no broadcast this week, as they are both at Leading Age. If you missed the Fitness Challenge video, that is repeating in their time slot this week.
The Thursday Ambassador Help Desk will continue to be held at 2:00 pm. GroovyTek is available Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 8 am until 11:00. You can get Touchtown assistance at any of those locations.
Jon Schilling is also having a Touchtown Workshop on November 28 at 2 pm, where he will review how Beatitudes uses Touchtown for communication. Call him at x1 0333
The effort to improve our Internet connectivity and responsiveness continues. Plaza North has been finished, and those results are being analyzed. That same process will continue next in Plaza South, and then continue in each building across the campus.
Elections were held for building representatives on November 7, and Touchtown will post updates for those positions as soon as they are received.
The weekly Communications briefs in the Roadrunner have been well-received, and will continue. You can see past articles and minutes from many meetings at www.BeatitudesCampus.NET and click on Communications, or pick up a copy in the back of the room after the meeting.
We’ve changed our meeting date to every Third Wednesday at 3:00 pm in the Board Rooms. Our next meeting will be one week from today on November 15.
